World Cup 2006 - The Tartan Army march on

I came across this hilarious link. If you get past the silly game thing the song is pretty funny. I haven’t listened to it all the way through yet so I’m sorry if it’s got anything offensive in it. (It didn’t on the parts I listened to)

Jason Scotland plays from Trinidad and Tobago by the way.

Does cracking your knuckles cause arthritis
Wednesday March 22nd 2006, 11:14 pm

When I’m getting really stressed or concentrating on something I’ll crack my knuckles without even realising I’m doing it, to which I get told off by Grace lol

People have told me from time to time that cracking my knuckles will give me arthritis while others have told me that it’s a myth so I decided to do a bit of research.

It was considered on a few sites whether there was a trend between knuckle cracking and arthritis of which none was found. It was also considered whether those who cracked their knuckles had looser ligaments which would then result in proneness to joint damage of which the result concluded negative.

Therefor I’m satisfied that the answer to this question “Does cracking your knuckles cause arthritis?” is no and that it was indeed people that found it annoying that started the myth.

What is the cracking noise that comes from your knuckles? Apparently it’s gases (Nitrogen) escaping from between the joints that makes the noise.

What you didn’t know about the speed cameras

I just got this in an email so I’m only trusting it so far….

“Did you know that every time your car goes past a speed camera, even
1mph over the set limit it is registered and put on a database?
You get a ticket only if you are way over the limit or, (this is the bit
that we didn’t know) if you receive over 20 near misses, you will be
classed as a serial offender and get a ticket the next time you go just over the
limit.
This is why you hear of people being done for 34mph in a 30 limit area
whilst others doing 39 do not.

Following the Government ’s freedom of information act you can now get
access to speed camera offences registered in the last 12 months.

You can check what has been registered against your vehicle at the
following address
http://www.e-database.co.uk

You will be asked for a password but just click on the “need a password”
Link and you will be given one for future use.

If there is any data on your vehicle you can click on the camera window
to see a copy of the photograph.”

I’m a little cynical about it as the web address is not a gov address and the website shows up with service unavailable.

The thousand dollar thread
Tuesday October 04th 2005, 7:11 pm

What started as a practical joke played at the expense of myself by other members at Digital Point Forums has turned into a prize filled aggressive competition in which the winner walks away with over $1000USD worth of prizes.

The thread which was started by myself was about the reputation system which has become a voodoo subject at Digital Point. I quickly realised my mistake and wanted the thread to close.

Much to my discomfort other members starting donating prizes for the last person who posts on the thread with a 24 hour gap. Now the members are aggressively fighting for the prize which only results in the thread growing bigger and bigger and bigger…….

Will you be the lucky poster?

The chemical abstracts in all their wisdom decided to give a certain Tobacco Masaic Virus the name Acetylseryltyrosylserylisoleucylthreonylserylprolylserylglutaminylphenylalanylvalylphenylalanylleucylserylserylvalyltryptophylalanylaspartylprolylisoleucylglutamylleucylleucylasparaginylvalylcysteinylthreonylserylserylleucylglycylasparaginylglutaminylphenylalanylglutaminylthreonylglutaminylglutaminylalanylarginylthreonylthreonylglutaminylvalylglutaminylglutaminylphenylalanylserylglutaminylvalyltryptophyllysylprolylphenylalanylprolylglutaminylserylthreonylvalylarginylphenylalanylprolylglycylaspartylvalyltyrosyllysylvalyltyrosylarginyltyrosylasparaginylalanylvalylleucylaspartylprolylleucylisoleucylthreonylalanylleucylleucylglycylthreonylphenylalanylaspartylthreonylarginylasparaginylarginylisoleucylisoleucylglutamylvalylglutamylasparaginylglutaminylglutaminylserylprolylthreonylthreonylalanylglutamylthreonylleucylaspartylalanylthreonylarginylarginylvalylaspartylaspartylalanylthreonylvalylalanylisoleucylarginylserylalanylasparaginylisoleucylasparaginylleucylvalylasparaginylglutamylleucylvalylarginylglycylthreonylglycylleucyltyrosylasparaginylglutaminylasparaginylthreonylphenylalanylglutamylserylmethionylserylglycylleucylvalyltryptophylthreonylserylalanylprolylalanylserine

This was recorded as the longest real word at 1185 characters which beats PNEUMONOULTRAMICROSCOPICSILICOVOLCANOCONIOSIS by… well a lot of characters!!

Some of the symptoms of this virus are;

- flaky skin
- nausea
- Hemorrhoids
- High temperatures

Many tests were done on the Black Crested Tufted Titmouse (shown right) as this bird was found to be 17 times more sensitive to the virus than humans. Unfortunately no cure was found but the research continues.
